Starbucks will permanently close five of its Seattle stores in areas with high rates of crime, a spokesperson told FOX 13.

According to the company, the decision to close five locations stems from the number of crime-related complaints that were filed at each location, either by employees or customers.

Starbucks says the closures are in advance of moving the stores to new locations where conditions will be safer for customers and employees.

The coffee chain is permanently closing 16 cafes after workers reported drug use by members of the public and crime concerns.
